Clinical Data Lakehouse (Bayer Pharmaceuticals)
Lead Data Engineering & Architecture - since December 2024
I am leading the Clinical Data Lakehouse’s Data Engineering team. We design and implement qualified template for data preparation, orchestration and transformation of Clinical Trial Data. This allows scaling and accelerating the processing of trial data. The templates will finally be used by 40+ trials p.a..
Simultaneously, we integrate in the existing enterprise system landscape with systems like IAM and also ensure integration from external CROs as well as self-managed studies.
Databricks Platform Architect (acting) - since December 2024
I designed and setup the Databricks Platform for Pharma Research & Development in co-creation with Enterprise Architecture.
Within just 6 weeks we delivered a GxP qualified Databricks Platform for R&D. This built the foundation for the Clinical Data Lakehouse and is expanded to all R&D projects on Databricks. The platform is based on Databricks on AWS and scaled swiftly to 200+ DAUs. It is in use from Early Research all the way to Clinical Trial Management and by Research Operations.

Global Architecture & Integration Lead - October 2020 to November 2022
Customer Powerhouse builds upon the foundation and standardization layed out by IMCM and boosts it up to the next level.
Further evolving business processes, strengthen data driven decisions with the goal to create an excellent customer experience by leveraging AI and improving data fairness.
The Global Data Platform is at the core of this initiative and providing access for all use cases from analytics, data integration to advanced AI use cases.
Integrated Multichannel Marketing (Bayer Pharmaceuticals)
Global Integration Lead - October 2017 to October 2020
IMCM was rolling out a globally applicable standard for Marketing processes and a common tool set. This extended also to a unified reporting approach for all markets.
Main task was the roll out of the Veeva CRM stack along side other cloud solutions like Concur, Cvent, Salesforce Marketing Cloud or Onetrust and on-premise systems like SAP.
In order to gain the maximum value out of this diverse enviroment of best-in-class solutions, data integration was the neural net ensuring that all processes are timely and accurately provided with the right data and orchestration of these processes across system boundaries is ensured.

Principal Data Architect Pharma Research Platform - Bayer AG
Since December 2022
I am driving the data strategy for the Pharma Research Platform.
Focus of the architecture is the design and implemtation of a FAIR data environment. This facilitates fast access to relevant scientific along the research process. Establishing this architecture will foster data driven decisions and the utilization of innovative technologies and applications - from lab scale to production scale.
Product Manager Global Data Platform Pharma - Bayer AG
since January 2021
In my role as Product Manager for the Global Data Platform & Data Integration I am responsible for the entire integration and analytics stack in an end-to-end responsibility.
I am defining the technical product road map, align requirements with major stakeholders and manage the product success financially.
In addition I remain the primary technical architect and lead three teams with 45 team members in total.

In Customer Powerhouse I continued the work and built upon the foundation set in IMCM with an increased area of responsibility.
I am leading three teams consisting of 45 people from various background and in various roles ranging from integration developers, cloud architects to different subject matter experts in areas like Snowflake, Denodo, Collibra or Reltio.
IMCM Global Integration Lead - Bayer Business Services GmbH
July 2018 - March 2020
As IMCM Integration Lead I lead a diverse and globally distributed team of 15 developers. I was responsible for the integration roll out of Bayer Pharma’s Integrated Multichannel Marketing program in 90+ markets including several must win markets like the United States, Germany, Japan, Brazil and China among others.
Besides leading the team I also initiated and implemented an overhaul of the programms integration backbone, moving it from an on premise Talend environment to a cloud native solution on Amazon Web Services.
This move was conducted in parallel to the ongoing project activities and applied to all live markets without interruption.
For this move I designed the target architecture in a serverless setup, the migration patterns and path as well as the timeline and ensured that our programm deliverables were not affected by this technical enhancement.
After all, this change gave us the required scalability to roll out successfully to our most important markets in a cost-efficient and reliable manner.
CRM Integration Architect - Bayer Business Services GmbH
May 2017 - July 2018
In this role I was responsible for building up Talend as Global Integration Platform in Marketing & Sales within Bayer across all divisions. My focus was on pharmaceuticals.
One of the main tasks in this role was the developing of best practices and collaboration with our implementation partners as well as Talend as our platform vendor.
The range of activities varied from defining implementation standards to collaborating with Talend on improvements of the software.
Overarching and independent of the technology the definition of various implementation patterns and evolution of our target architecture were my main focus.
I was responsible to ensure the quality of delivery and continuously improve it of a team of 15 developers and coach team members on developments. Additionally I ensured the hand over of developments from project to operations.
Software Architect & Consultant - Bayer Business Services GmbH
August 2013 - May 2017
In my role as software architect I was driving the evolution of the applications and the development practices. This was combined with consulting activities to engineer the best suitable technical solutions for the business requirements gathered.
I drove the adoption of industry best practices, replacing custom developments with standard libraries like Spring increasing the teams delivery and focus on business requirements.
These activities were augmented with the stringent introduction and adoption of behavioral driven testing improving the quality of our delivery which followed a switch from traditional Java EE application setup to API and Single Page web applications.
Lead Navigator China - Bayer Business Services GmbH
April 2015 - July 2015
The Lead Navigator was accountable for the project success of the Complexity Reduction project of Bayer’s IT Hub in Beijing, China and the introduction of the Lean Management system.
In this role I guided the local management team through the transition and ensured the adequate training and implementation of the LMS principles in the daily routine.

December 2014 - March 2015
The project Complexity Reduction was a change project for Bayer’s IT subsidiary Bayer Business Services GmbH. Goal of the project was the roll out and implementation of Lean Management principles throughout the organization and their application to the IT processes.
As a Navigator I was responsible for guiding our Analytics department through this transition. I was analyzing the as-is situation with the colleagues and trained the theoritical components of the LEAN Management System we could leverage to address the pain points.
Jointly with the team we chose elements of the LMS and implemented them in the daily routine to instill a structured approach to continuous improvement.
Software Developer - Bayer Business Services GmbH
January 2010 - August 2013
As a software developer I was responsible for the feature development of several global applications based on Java. These applications ranged from complex integration solutions in an ETL with focus on performance to web applications which contributed to the REACH compliance of Bayer as well as enabled the sustainability reporting of Bayer AG.
Main focus were on backend development tasks in Java and minor front end adjustments for usability purposes.
